Walking in the west country is wonderful. Especially if you combine it with comfortable bedrooms, delicious food and a roaring fire to dry your boots by. All that, plus good wine and a very warm welcome is waiting for you here in our large but cosy thatched house, in the tranquil North Devon village of Sheepwash.
The surrounding countryside is nothing short of glorious - whatever the weather. You can opt for strolls by the nearby river Torridge, or go farther afield to Dartmoor or the North Cornwall cliff top walks.
We can suggest routes, and provide the option of a qualified guide, (with mountain and mooring first aid certificates) who can offer various packages. From a 2 hour walk, with local facts and history, to an all day hike, with orienteering and navigation instruction.
The tea and coffee making facilities in your room will help you kick start your day, and we'll help too - with the kind of breakfast that will keep you powering ahead until lunchtime. Cereal, fruit, juice, yoghurt, homemade bread and toast and of course a cooked option, including eggs fresh from our hens.
We can deliver and collect you from local walks, in our 7 seater, and wave you off with the kind of lunch that boosts body and soul in your back pack (including a thermos of home made soup). But if the weather forces you to cut your day short, phone us - we will collect you early, and bring you back for tea and homemade banana bread and cookies by the fire. Then why not slip into the fluffy white bathrobe in your room and take advantage of the complimentary goodies in the guests' bathroom- bubbles, oils, lotions, hair care products, and more.
We'll see that you end the day with a meal that delights the tastebuds and soothes the palate. (As one guest put it, the gastronomic equivalent of a warm hug). So that you sleep soundly, ready for the next day's activity.
Before you turn in, you might like a nightcap in the spacious living room, on the sofas by the fire, or a 50 yard stroll across the square to our local pub, which has an astonishingly large selection of fine wines, ales and spirits.
The perfect end to a perfect day.

Testimonials:
"What a wonderful find! We arrived about 6 pm in the evening and were ushered into the living room to be greeted by an enormous blazing fire and a welcoming glass of wine. Deborah and Bob were the perfect hosts. The house has been lovingly restored to its traditional heritage. You'll have to share the bathroom if there are other guests (only 3 rooms total) but you get a proper sized bathroom and a real bath. What also appealed to us was the fact that during our entire stay we did not have to think and plan the next meal thus saving us time and energy to concentrate on the glorious walks on the north Devon and Cornwall coast. Home made bread and cakes, and eggs fresh from Deborah and Bob's own hens. We'll be back!"

"Having just returned from a glorious 4 day walking retreat, I highly recommend to anyone looking that this is definitely the place to stay. The warm welcome we received upon arrival incresed as the days went by and at the point of departure, we felt we were saying goodbye to friends and not just hosts. Deborah is a superb cook and all meals were first class standard with delicious wines to compliment them (including a taste of Deborah's home made white wine). The accomodation was superb, hugely comforting and immaculate. Phil, our walking guide had superb knowledge and of the area and local history and was a thoroughly nice chap who kept us smiling all day. It's a real blessing to have found this little gem in Sheepwash and I will definitely be going back. Thanks for everything Deborah, Bob and Family."
